Griffith Earns DAISY Award for Nurse Leader

Jacqueline Renee Griffith, MSN, RN, PCCN, CNML, is a senior nurse manager in 5A Acute Care, Orthopedics & Surgical at the Sussex Campus and has been awarded the DAISY Award for Nurse Leader. When it came to caring for a mother of two boys, she truly went above and beyond.
The DAISY Award is a “thank you” to extraordinary nurses. This program recognizes nurses who show compassion and determination through the care they provide. The DAISY Award honors the super-human work that nurses everywhere do for their patients and their families.
The DAISY Award for Nurse Leader highlights the work of those who do not typically have direct patient contact but through their leadership, create an environment where compassionate and attentive care thrive.
Griffith consistently demonstrates compassion to all of her colleagues, patients, caregivers and families. Her compassion shines through in the care that she provides and the lives that she touches.
What specifically earned Griffith the DAISY Award for nurse leader was a situation where she and her team were providing care to a mother of two sons. The patient was receiving dialysis for kidney failure and was admitted to Griffith’s unit with an infection.
With limited visitation hours and a senior night lacrosse game coming up, the patient was concerned about not only having her younger son there for her, but also being able to be there for her eldest son. Understanding how important it is for a patient to feel comfortable and at ease, Griffith began tackling both of these concerns right away.
Working out visitation hours for the patient’s younger son was the easier part of Griffith’s workload. Making sure that her patient was ready to support her eldest son would prove to be a little more difficult. However, Griffith was more determined than ever and ready to make it happen.
“Griffith had worked out the logistics and had taken every possible detail into consideration. Despite all of the moving parts, she was in no way ready to back down,” says Griffiths team member who nominated her.
Griffith enabled her patient to successfully complete her treatment plan so she could be there for her son’s special moment on the field.
The DAISY Award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes Family wanted to recognize the nurses who cared for Patrick and all the other “unsung heroes” of the nursing profession.
