Breast Cancer Genetics Event
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Bayhealth Cancer Institute is hosting a Breast Cancer Genetics Event to help you learn about your genetic cancer risk and, if appropriate, complete genetic testing without a separate appointment.
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 14
Time: 5-7 p.m.
Location: Bayhealth Outpatient Center, Total Care - Milton, 18383 Hudson Road
Registration is preferred but not required. Walk-ins are also welcome. Call 302-744-6152 to register for the event or ask questions.
Genetic testing typically costs between $0 and $100. If you have insurance, please bring your insurance card. Low- or no-cost testing may be available if you do not have insurance. You can also apply for financial assistance for your genetic testing by completing this online form through Ambry Genetics.
Should I consider genetic testing for breast cancer?
Mammograms are an important part of breast cancer screening. Knowing your genetic risk can be important, too.
Genetic screening and testing can help identify gene variations that may increase your risk of developing breast and other cancers. Understanding your risk can help you and your healthcare provider make informed decisions about your health.
You may qualify for genetic testing if:
- You have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
- You have a family history of breast cancer, ovarian or fallopian tube cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer or gastric cancer.
- You are of Ashkenazi Jewish descent.
