Cost of COVID-19 Testing at Bayhealth

At Bayhealth, the cost for collection (swabbing) is $25. The cost of the test can vary for a number of reasons, such as the type of test that is available and the lab it will be sent to. But, on average, the cost of a COVID-19 test ranges from $150 to $200. If you don't have insurance, all testing costs will be waived in accordance with the CARES Act.

COVID-19 Outpatient Testing

The COVID-19 swab test performed on an outpatient basis is covered at 100% by your insurance company; they should not assign a copay. If you receive your explanation of benefits or a bill for an amount higher than your in-network cost sharing rates please contact your insurance company and ask them to reprocess the claim. Note: Repeat and return-to-work testing may not be covered by your insurance.

COVID-19 Related Emergency Room, Observation or Inpatient Testing and Treatment

Any cost-sharing requirements that are part of your plan – such as copayments, coinsurance or deductibles – still apply for treatment related to COVID-19. However, the cost sharing amounts assigned by your insurance company should be at your in-network cost sharing rates. If you receive your explanation of benefits or a bill for an amount higher than your in-network cost sharing rates please contact your insurance company and to confirm the claim was processed correctly.

Pre-Operative COVID-19 Testing

Pre-Operative COVID testing is necessary for patient and provider safety. This may or may not be covered 100% by your insurance company; we are still seeking information from insurance companies on their policies related to this.
