Vice President, Operations & Administrator, Bayhealth Sussex Campus
Michael Ashton, MPH, FACHE, is administrator of the Sussex Campus and vice president of operations. With more than 20 years of healthcare industry experience, he is highly skilled in management, leadership, working with physicians, change management, and leadership development.
In addition to his executive oversight of Sussex Campus operations, Ashton guides operations for many areas across the Bayhealth enterprise, including four service lines (Neurosciences, Cardiovascular, Oncology, and Orthopedics), Laboratory Services, Respiratory & Sleep Services, Inpatient Rehabilitation, and Rehabilitation Services. He also leads operations for the outpatient testing centers, Diagnostic Imaging, Women’s Centers, Pastoral Care, Volunteer Services, school-based Wellness Centers, Occupational Health, the BAYADA at Bayhealth joint venture, and Post-Acute Medical (PAM) joint venture.
Ashton contributes his expertise to a wide range of initiatives at the health system, including Capacity Management, Care Access, Digital Health, Graduate Medical Education, High Reliability, Lean Operations, Magnet®, Operational Excellence, Patient Safety, Personalized Medicine, Quality Improvement, Social Determinants of Health. He also lends his insights to community health initiatives.
What Ashton enjoys most about his work at Bayhealth is helping improve the care delivery system and building systems of care that improve the patient and staff experience.
Prior to joining the health system in 2011, Ashton was administrative director - Medical Service Line at WellSpan Health in York, PA, and held roles at Guthrie Healthcare System and Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Hospital.
Ashton received his bachelor of science from Brigham Young University and earned a master of public health at Loma Linda University.
