Bayhealth Recognizes Highmark’s Generosity with Program Director Naming

Thursday, June 2, 2022 | Bayhealth Foundation
Bayhealth’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) residency program continues to grow, thanks to the generosity of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware. Their total support of $1.6 million has strengthened Bayhealth’s efforts to bring more talented new physicians to our community. In appreciation of their significant gifts, Bayhealth is pleased to announce the new naming of the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware Family Medicine Residency Program Director role.

“This naming opportunity demonstrates our deep appreciation for Highmark’s long-standing support of Bayhealth and their commitment to our residency programs,” said Bayhealth Foundation President Lindsay Rhodenbaugh. “Our partnership is helping to ensure that central and southern Delawareans have greater access to high-quality healthcare.”

In July, Bayhealth’s Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Programs will each welcome their second class—composed of eight and 13 residents, respectively—
and the General Surgery Residency will begin training its first three surgical residents.

These medical school graduates join the 21 residents currently working in Bayhealth hospitals and Bayhealth Family Medicine, Dover and Bayhealth Internal Medicine, Milford practices. All the residents are full-fledged medical doctors gaining advanced training from seasoned Bayhealth physicians while serving the healthcare needs of our communities.

“We’re proud to continue supporting Bayhealth in addressing the physician shortages in Delaware and improving healthcare outcomes for our community,” said Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware President Nick Moriello. “It’s exciting to be involved in the ongoing growth of the Bayhealth GME programs. We know that having more physicians available to families and neighbors in Kent and Sussex counties will benefit the health of our state.”
