Kenya Wilson

A Shining Light for Her Community

Kenya Wilson, the office supervisor at Bayhealth Primary Care, Smyrna, entered the healthcare field 12 years ago. She wanted to pursue a meaningful career where she could have a positive impact on people. “No matter how modern technology becomes, healthcare will always need that personal touch,” she said. This is the last story in the “Black Excellence that Inspires” series presented by Bayhealth. A collection of these stories is being shared on Bayhealth’s social media pages. Thank you for joining us in celebration of Black History Month as we honor and celebrate these inspiring individuals.

Kenya leads her team with stability and grace. Her days are filled with assisting patients, coordinating care with specialists, and performing team operations and administrative duties. More than just accomplishing tasks, Kenya makes the most of her time with patients by forming connections and showing kindness.

A single mom, Kenya shared that she wants to be a steady example for her children – two daughters and three sons. “They watched me as a single mom continue to be consistent and work hard day after day. It helped them believe that they could also do anything they set their minds to – and do it well.”

During tough seasons in her life, Kenya says she held onto the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.” Kenya says she couldn’t let her light go out and that positive outlook helped shape the woman she is today.

As a black female leader in healthcare, Kenya is setting an example for many others to aspire to become. She says she sets and keeps high standards for herself and how she treats others.

And Kenya serves her community outside of the workplace also. She serves as part of Saint Daniels United Methodist Church where she helps gather items for local shelters. She’s part of a team that holds collection drives each quarter.

Bayhealth is proud to honor Kenya’s story during Black History Month. Visit Bayhealth.org/Careers to be a part of a team who respects and values everyone on the team.
