Passion for Excellent Patient Care Drives Bayhealth's Program Director of Professional Excellence

With more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience and nearly as many years before that as a clinical nurse, Dorothy Boresky, DNP, MBA, RN, NE-BC, was recently named program director of Professional Excellence at Bayhealth.
Working in collaboration with nurses and Bayhealth’s Senior Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive, Rosemary (Rosi) Wurster, she serves as an expert on interpretation of Magnet Recognition Program standards, supports and advises on the integration of the standards into Bayhealth’s nursing practice, and also serves as an expert in professional governance and nursing outcomes. (In 2020, Bayhealth again achieved Magnet recognition — a designation that is the highest national honor acknowledging professional nursing practice. It will soon seek Magnet redesignation — an initiative Boresky will lead by coaching and mentoring nurses, championing the advancement of professional governance, and assessing caregiver input in order to ensure continued nursing excellence.)
Boresky’s passion for excellent patient care and teamwork is what drives her in her new role.
“It’s been so rewarding — working with Rosi Wurster, clinical nurses, and nursing leaders to develop a patient care services strategic plan supporting organizational initiatives and the wellbeing of our community,” said Boresky. “I’m proud to be part of a nursing team whose members are so committed to each other and our patients to improve outcomes.”
In her work at Bayhealth, Boresky draws inspiration from her years of experience as a nurse.
“Most of my career was dedicated to the care of adult and pediatric patients needing open heart surgery,” she said. “Through the care of these patients, I learned key lessons and opportunities related to the work environment, patient satisfaction, and outcomes.”
“Dot’s experience and commitment to outstanding patient care and nursing excellence speaks for itself,” said Wurster. “By starting out as a clinical nurse and progressing to leadership roles over the years, she’s uniquely qualified for the role. Her guidance of Professional Excellence is a win for patients, families, and nurses, as Dot leverages her insights as a nurse and her drive to lead the way to improve nursing outcomes and enhance the practice environment.”
Before her appointment at Bayhealth, she held various healthcare leadership roles over her more than three-decade career.
Boresky received her Bachelor of Science in nursing at New York University and her Doctor of Nursing Practice at Drexel University. She is a member of the Delaware Organization of Nurse Leaders, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and the American Nurses Association (and is a mentor for the association). She is also a supporter of the American Heart Association, Go Red for Women, American Nursing Foundation, and UNICEF.
In her time away from work, she enjoys spending time with husband, children, and grandchildren. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, crocheting, shopping, and travel.
