Bayhealth Launches Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship

Bayhealth is proud to announce the establishment of the first Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship program in Delaware. This groundbreaking initiative aims to educate new fellows and equip them with the skills to deliver specialized care to Delawareans.
A fellow is a physician who has completed both medical school and residency and is board eligible. Fellows choose to pursue additional training in a subspecialty of medicine – known as a fellowship. Fellowship programs allow these physicians the in-depth training to become experts in a particular subspecialty of medicine.
The fellowship program will offer two positions per year. Interviews for prospective fellows will be conducted from August through October, with the final selection being announced on November 29.
Over the course of the three-year program, fellows will gain invaluable experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings, enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of the field. In addition, fellows will receive training in pathology, transfusion medicine, and clinical research. As part of the program, fellows will also undergo a month-long training in bone marrow transplants at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. As a member of the Penn Cancer Network, Bayhealth is the only cancer program in Delaware affiliated with a National Cancer Institute–designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Leading the program is Bayhealth Hematologist/Oncologist Iftekhar Khan, MD. Dr. Khan brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the fellowship, ensuring the highest level of training and mentorship for the fellows.
