Bayhealth’s Free Sports Physicals Event Serves 79 Local Athletes

Friday, August 4, 2023 | Community Outreach

An impressive 79 local athletes received free sports physicals from Bayhealth’s cohort of Family Medicine Residents on Saturday, July 22. The second annual event was held at Bayhealth Family Medicine, Dover in partnership with the Bayhealth Family Medicine Residency Program and the Bayhealth Medical Group (BMG).

Providing this service for the second consecutive year is a reflection of Bayhealth’s commitment to increase healthcare access and strengthen the health of the community. It was also an opportunity to shine light on Bayhealth’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program and the benefits it brings to Central and Southern Delaware.

Family Medicine Resident Physician and event lead Michael Pietrandrea, DO, and his colleagues were proud to offer this service to local athletes and their families. “We wore our official event T-shirts that said, ‘Start Strong, Stay Strong’ and that’s exactly what we hope to help these athletes do,” he commented. “A sports physical ensures they start their season off healthy, and we’re here to help them stay healthy for the season and for life!”

Vice President of Bayhealth Medical Group Physician Services Dina Perry, MBA, shared, “Our Bayhealth team works hard to create the best experiences and deliver quality care to patients. When our team members from across Bayhealth come together to support events like this, we are reminded of the impact we make on our community at large. The patients are so grateful and appreciative. We are happy to have this event for the second year, and I’m proud of our staff and the GME team for making this a great day for our community.”

In addition to sports physicals, Bayhealth offers many other services to help keep athletes on the field including primary care, sports medicine, physical therapy, and more. Visit Bayhealth.org/Stay-Strong to learn more.
