Bayhealth Welcomes New Surgeon for General, Specialized & Robotic Surgeries

Bayhealth is pleased to expand its ability to bring cutting-edge and compassionate surgical care to our communities with the addition of Krishnaraj Mahendraraj, MD, to its surgical team. Dr. Mahendraraj joins Surgeons Edward Alexander, MD; Theodoros Katsichtis, MD; Bradford Mitchell, MD; and Assar Rather, MD; and Nurse Practitioners Carol Dye, NP-C, and Adrianne Fisher, FNP-BC, in the Bayhealth General Surgery, Dover practice.

Dr. Mahendraraj is accepting new patients. He also will serve as the associate program director for Bayhealth’s General Surgery Residency program which is training medical school graduates to become surgeons in our local area.

The Bayhealth General Surgery, Dover practice is part of Bayhealth Medical Group, a partnership of highly trained physicians and advanced practice clinicians, their staff, and an administrative support team that operates medical offices throughout central and southern Delaware. A separate Bayhealth General Surgery, Sussex Campus practice is located in Milford.

“Dr. Mahendraraj is a gifted surgeon who performs complex surgical treatments and robotic surgeries to treat pancreatic cancer, liver tumors and other diseases in what are generally considered harder to treat locations in the body,” said Bayhealth Vice President, Physician Services and Clinical Integration Lawrence Ward, MD, MPH, FACP. “He will help us meet the growing surgical needs of our community members with his expertise, excellent bedside manner, and commitment to personalized, patient-centered care.”

After earning his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, Dr. Mahendraraj completed a general surgery residency at Lincoln Medical Center,
Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, New York. He was a fellow in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery, a subspecialty focused on liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile duct treatments, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. There he also earned da Vinci certification for robotic abdominal surgery and completed a dual certification in kidney and HPB surgery as well as abdominal transplant surgery.

Prior to joining Bayhealth, Dr. Mahendraraj was employed as a surgeon and surgical clinical instructor for abdominal transplant and robotic surgery at the Miami Transplant Institute at University of Miami in Florida.
